Kyoto Traffic

We did our part for global warming
Sitting an hour in the idling car
Idle as devil’s hands creeping forward
Over the green hills under blue skies
Sidewalk spilling with picnickers
Lugging lunch boxes and sleepy prams
Laughing, heedless as we sat steaming
Watching the cherry blossoms creep by
There were no parking spots nearby
Only spots of irritation and frustration
So I found a quiet lot blocks away
Walked to that French café I love
Ordered café au lait and foccacio
And let the cerise scent of spring
Wash the stink of Kyoto traffic away
